Fly without Delay: Airports where passengers wait the least

The Stuttgart Airport was the European airport with the highest number of punctual departures and arrivals in 2022.

According to data from OAG Aviation Worldwide, a central British aviation data management company, Stuttgart Airport was the European airport with the highest number of punctual departures and arrivals in 2022. The punctuality rate last year was 84.2 percent, although 2.5 percent of the announced flights had to be canceled. According to OAG, flights are considered punctual if they depart or arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure or arrival time. As our graphic shows, Norwegian passengers also experienced high punctuality rates last year.

With Trondheim, Stavanger, and Bergen, Norway is represented three times in the top eight most punctual airports in Europe. Dublin and Malta take second and third place with punctuality rates of 82.7 percent and 81.8 percent, respectively. Malta also had the fewest canceled flights in comparison to other European airports, with only 0.3 percent of scheduled flights not taking place. The most punctual airlines in Europe in 2022 were Eurowings, Iberia, Air Europa, and Austrian Airlines.

However, in an international comparison, European airports do not perform as well and are not represented in the top 20. Seven out of the top ten airports with the highest punctuality rates are located in Japan, with Osaka-Itami ranking first at 91.5 percent. Tokyo-Haneda, the most well-known Japanese airport for international flights, ranks twelfth with 88 percent punctuality.
